Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Online Training
NSF Requirements for Responsible Conduct of Research Training
The 2007 America COMPETES Act directed the National Science Foundation to require that all funded students and post docs undergo training in the responsible conduct of research or (RCR). NSF has revised their Grant Proposal Guide effective January 4, 2010, stating that all institutions submitting proposals to NSF on or after this date must certify that a training plan is in place. This training includes all undergraduate, graduate and post doctoral scholars who will be supported by an NSF grant to conduct the proposed research. The SIUC Office of Research Development and Administration (ORDA) requires that each student complete an online tutorial at the time of their appointment. The tutorial is an online module provided by the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) base at the University of Miami (FL).
Although the training requirement applies to students paid from NSF grants submitted in 2010 and after, ORDA urges principal investigators with awards submitted before 2010 to begin implementing CITI training with their students. The principal investigator of the funded project may contact ORDA staff Steve Banker regarding RCR training compliance questions.
